Christopher Job is establishing himself as an important talent in the opera industry. In just the last few seasons, he has made his Italian debut at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna as Sparafucile in Rigoletto and Il Podestà in Rossini’s La Gazza Ladra; made his role debut as Escamillo in Carmen with Lyric Opera Virginia; his role debut as Alidoro in La Cenerentola with the Belle Ile Festival in France; and joined the Metropolitan Opera roster for their productions of Janacek's From the House of the Dead, Shostakovich's The Nose, The Enchanted Island, and La Rondine. Mr. Job returns again next season for The Nose as well as the role of Bruhlmann in Werther, and also performs the Bass Soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony as well as Handel’s Messiah at Lincoln Center. 

 

With Opera Colorado, Mr. Job has appeared as Count Ribbing in Un Ballo in Maschera, Sprecher/2nd Priest in Die Zauberflöte, Dr. Dulcamara in L’Elisir d’Amore, Zuniga in Carmen, and Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail. He also created the role of General Godofredo de la Barca in the world premiere of La Curandera, an opera in one act by Robert Xavier Rodriguez, commissioned by Opera Colorado. In addition, he performed Blitch in Susannah with Opera Idaho; the 5th Jew in Salome in his debut with Palm Beach Opera; made his role debut as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro with Fargo Moorhead Opera; sang Colline in La bohème at Lyric Opera Baltimore; Ramfis in Aïda and Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni with Tulsa Opera and Opera Fort Collins; performed Kilian in Der Freischütz and Angelotti in Tosca at the Des Moines Metro Opera; and performed Baron Douphol in La traviata with Syracuse Opera and Lyric Opera of Virginia. 

 

Mr. Job spent several summers with the Glimmerglass Opera, where he was seen as Caronte in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo ed Euridice, the Poet in Philip Glass’ Orphée, and Capellio in Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi. He was also a resident artist with the Minnesota Opera, singing Frère Laurent in Romeo et Juliette and Count Horn in Un Ballo in Maschera, among appearances in other productions.

 

Mr. Job has performed at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall with the New York Philharmonic, where he was featured in two roles in My Fair Lady, sharing the stage with Kelsey Grammer and Brian Dennehy. Other concert appearances include the bass soloist in Mozart’s Requiem at Carnegie Hall; bass soloist in Haydn’s Creation with the Greeley Philharmonic, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Verdi’s Requiem with the Denver Opera Company, and Handel’s Messiah with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.

 

Other roles to his credit, both nationally and internationally, include Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Méphistophélès in Gounod’s Faust, Reverend Hale and Francis Nurse in The Crucible, Dr. Grenvil in La traviata, Simone in Gianni Schicchi, Talpa in Il tabarro, Seneca in L’Incoronazione di Poppea, and the title role in Don Giovanni with such companies as Aspen Opera Theatre, Chautauqua Opera, Opera Omaha, Opera Pacific, as well as numerous other opera and concert appearances in countries such as Italy, Israel, Austria, the UK, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil.

Acclaimed for his "fresh-toned and touching portrayal" by Opera News and lauded by the New Orleans Times-Picayune for his "rich lyrical tenor, fabulous top notes, and striking good looks," John McVeigh continues to garner attention for his countless world class performances at the most revered houses throughout the United States and all over the world. This season, he performs Pang in Turandot with Hawaii Opera Theatre; covers the role of Bardolfo in Falstaff at the Metropolitan Opera; returns to Houston Grand Opera for their productions of Carmen and Das Rheingold; performs L'Allegro with the Mark Morris Dance Group as part of the Lincoln Center White Light Festival; and joins Christoph Eschenbach and the National Symphony for their concert performance of Der Rosenkavalier.

 

Most recent concert engagements include The Blind at the Lincoln Center Festival; Haydn's Creation with the Portland Symphony; Mozart Mass in C with the St Catherine of Siena Concert Series; Messiah with Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Baroque, Winston Salem Symphony, and Charlotte Symphony Orchestra; Acis in Acis and Galatea with the Concert Radio Kamer Filharmonie in Amsterdam; Bach's St. Matthew Passion under the baton of Jaap van Zweden with the Dallas Symphony; Bach's St. John Passion with the Winston-Salem Symphony; Orff's Carmina Burana with the Memphis Symphony; Handel's L'allegro with the Mark Morris Dance Group at the Kennedy Center; Vaughan Williams' On Wenlock Edge with the Arizona Music Festival and Portland Chamber Music Festival; and a concert of arias in a return to the Portland Symphony.

 

Having earned breakout star status with his performances as the Novice in Benjamin Britten's Billy Budd in his debut with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, he soon after reprised the same role in his debuts with Los Angeles Opera and Washington National Opera, as well as in a return to Houston Grand Opera.  His extensive work in English language repertoire has also included performances as Lysander in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Utah Opera and in his Central City Opera debut; Johnny Inkslinger in Paul Bunyan with Central City Opera; Hot Biscuit Slim also in Paul Bunyan at New York City Opera (broadcast on Live from Lincoln Center on PBS), as well as Feeny in The Mines of Sulphur; his Ravinia Festival debut as Henrick in A Little Night Music alongside Patti LuPone; the title role in Candide with Austin Lyric Opera; the title role in Romberg's The Student Prince with Central City Opera; Anatol in Vanessa with San Diego Opera; Little Bat in in the Metropolitan Opera's first production of Susannah under James Conlon; and the role of Will Tweedy in the world premiere of Cold Sassy Tree at Houston Grand Opera, with repeated performances at  Atlanta Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Opera Omaha, San Diego Opera, and Opera Carolina. In addition, he has also sung the world premiere of Carlisle Floyd's Soul of Heaven for tenor and piano.
