Letters of Romiosini and Modern Greece
A concert of songs and instrumental compositions of a lyrical, nostalgic and traditional character from various locations of the Greece and the Greek diaspora that make up the canvas of the contemporary Greek culture.
The concert will be comprised of compositions of classical character by Dinos Constantinides, Athanasios Zervas, of popular character by Nikos Gounaris, Spyros Olandezos, Giorgos Kostis, and traditional songs re-arranged and transformed to the present time, in a process to give a holistic view of the poetry, music, letters and culture in general of Romiosini and Greeks worldwide.

Participating Group Directors
Athanasios Zervas is a composer, theorist, conductor, and virtuoso reed player (cl, fl, sax). He is Professor of Music Theory-Music Creation and Dean of the School of Social Science, Humanities and Arts at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki Greece. In addition, he is Artist in Residence at the Athens Conservatoire in Greece.
He is a specialist in pitch-class set theory, contemporary music, composition, orchestration, jazz improvisation, popular Greek music, and saxophone. His articles and research papers have been published by the University of Central Missouri, College Music Society, the University of Athens Greece, the University of Macedonia Greece, the Hellenic Musicological Society, the MUSE Institute of Greece, the Greek Composers Union, the Hellenic Saxophone Association, etc. His monographs and compositions are published by Jeanne Inc. (USA), PANAS Music Publishers, and Edition ORPHEUS in Athens Greece. Dr. Zervas is the chief editor of the electronic theory/composition journal ‘mus-e-journal’ at www.muse.gr, the founder and soprano saxophonist of the Athens Saxophone Quartet. Athanasios has written for solo instruments, chamber, orchestral, and vocal ensembles, electroacoustic music, and music for film, theater, and jazz for small and large ensembles. He has recordings as composer and performer with BMG, Centaur, EMI, FM, Phasma-Naxos, Libra, Magni, Mercury/Universal, Aristotelian University Studio, etc.
Athanasios holds Doctorate of Music in Composition and Master of Music in Saxophone from Northwestern University, and a BA in Music from Chicago State University. In addition, he holds Degrees in Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue, and Diplomas in Flute and Clarinet from Athenian Conservatories.
