Geoffrey Boers is Director of Choral Activities at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he is the Mary K. Shepman Endowed Professor of Music. Under his direction, the graduate choral program at the University of Washington has developed into one of the most vibrant and innovative in the country. Their cohort of four faculty and fifteen graduate students lead a program of nine ensembles nine ensembles with nearly 600 singers participating. Geoffrey conducts the UW Chamber Singers, the University's premier ensemble of graduate and advanced singers. He also teaches graduate choral conducting and choral pedagogy, and serves as faculty advisor to the choral community at the University.
Geoffrey maintains an active conducting, teaching, workshop and clinic schedule. This past season, he has conducted programs across the U.S and Canada, with concerts in Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, Meyerson Concert Hall in Dallas, and Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Through his teaching he is exploring the evolution of the conducting gesture and its connection with empathy, perception, learning , and the growing science of mirror neurons. His exploration has led new thoughts about choral conducting and teaching with regard to breath, movement, spirit, artistry, personal growth, and cultural development. Recently, his work has led to the development of local choral cohorts of teachers and conductors interested in ongoing mentorship and musical development, who themselves develop programs of mentorship and learning based in these teachings.
In addition to his position at the UW, Boers is the conductor of the Tacoma Symphony Chorus and will lead this choir on a concert tour to Germany, Czech Republic and Austria in the summer of 2012.

Valencia Vikings High School Concert Choir
Christine Mocha
The Valencia High School Choir program consists of 200 students in six separate touring choirs. They have performed solely as the mass guest choir in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Westminster Abbey in London, and St. Patrick's Cathedral in Ireland. Under Christine Tavares's direction, the VHS Choirs have also traveled to Florida, Hawaii, Carnegie Hall New York, Italy and in 2012 performed in London at the time of the Summer Games. The Concert Choir and Women's Chamber Ensembles have repeatedly achieved the ratings of "Gold Choir" and "Choir of the Festival" and have been invited to the highly prestigious Festival of Gold numerous times. They have also been fortunate to have outstanding student accompanists whom have repeatedly won the honored Maestro Awards (Heritage Festival). Each year for the last four years, Valencia has had multiple students accepted into the California All-State Honor Choir. In May 2008, the Women's Choir Dona Bella was awarded Best Overall Choir, the "Esprit Du Cour - Ensemble of the Festival" and given the highest rating in the nine year history of the San Francisco Music in the Parks. The Dona Bellas received a score of 100 out of 100 from Deke Sharon, founder and current vice-president of the Contemporary A Cappella Society. "I have never actually given a score of 100 percent but I gave them 100 percent. I rarely have an opportunity to hear a group that is such a pleasurable experience." "It was like reading a high school essay and, while reading it, finding yourself pouring over an article found in the New Yorker." (This quote is taken from the May 2008 Signal Newspaper Article Interview). The VHS Vocal Jazz program is one of the strongest in California. In April 2008 they won first place in the national Fullerton Jazz Festival in the "Advanced" category, 2011 Third place in the internationally renowned Monterey Jazz Festival, followed by a "Unanimous Superior" rating at the Vocal Jazz Festival in Greeley, Colorado where students in the vocal jazz group Two N' Four were offered ,000 in college scholarship money for their performance.
