Participating Group Directors
The Cantata Singers, of the southern Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York, have been providing three free concerts every year since being founded in 1964. Repertoire has included music from the Renaissance through last year, including many of the great choral standards as well as several commissioned works. Volunteer singers raise money from grants, dues, and other fund raising activities to purchase music and hire soloists and instrumental accompaniment. Highlights of our history include founding a month-long Festival of Women in the Arts and an Elmira, NY performance of Haydn’s “The Creation” led by Robert Shaw.
The City of Birmingham Choir was founded in 1921, and enjoys a musical partnership with the City’s internationally famous orchestra, the CBSO, at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall where in 2002 they took part in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Concert. The choir’s repertoire includes most of the major choral works, and they recently combined with the CBSO for centenary performances of Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius, The Apostles and The Kingdom. In spring 2015 the choir was on tour in Paris, singing mass at Notre Dame and in 2017 the choir will be visiting Vienna, performing Handel’s Messiah at the Stephansdom Cathedral.
Since it was established in 1990 Côr Glanaethwy have won many awards at the BBC Choir of the Year and the Music For Youth Festivals in London. They have performed at the BBC Proms at the Albert Hall and have toured extensively to Italy, Belgium, Ukraine, Hungary, Bulgaria, Argentina, England, Scotland, Ireland and Switzerland. In 2008 they were runners up on the BBC 'Last Choir Standing' series and came third on Britain's Got Talent in 2015. In 2010 they won two gold medals and one silver at the World Choir Games in Shaoxing, China. And in 2016 they won the Open Category at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod. They have recently released their fifth album.
The Gisborne Singers is the premier choir in the Macedon Ranges region of Victoria, Australia. From its origins as a small madrigal group in 1980, the choir now has 60 accomplished singers who perform popular and challenging choral works. In recent years the repertoire has included Handel's Messiah, Rossini's Petit Messe Solonelle and Karl Jenkin's The Armed Man. As well as their bi-annual major performances the choir is regularly invited to perform at community celebrations, civic events and local schools and they perform an annual cabaret which highlights the diverse musical talents of the choristers.
Nelson Civic Choir (NZ) is a non-audition community based choir dating back more than 100 years. Our aim is to provide high quality performances of major classical choral works as well as many less known works.These concerts, in conjunction with orchestral or other accompaniment, add greatly to Nelson’s rich cultural tradition. Our recent performances include Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man – with full orchestra and video - and his Stabat Mater, both of which achieved public acclaim. A recent welcome development has been the participation of younger singers who have subsequently gone on to further their studies in music.
This all-volunteer, nonaudition chorale has shared the joy of music with local, regional and global audiences from the pride of our community—Edmonds Center for the Arts— to Seattle’s Benaroya Hall, Carnegie Hall, and several European engagements. Its vast repertoire ranges from classical to gospel to Broadway show tunes. Whether performing at a community celebration, memorial service, or in a concert hall, a shared commitment to uplift public spirit through inspired choral performance is ever-present as is a dedication to uplift fellow-singers in their musical endeavors.
The Middle School Choir at St. Lorenz Lutheran School in Frankenmuth, Michigan is made up of ninety students in grades six through eight. these students are educated in proper singing technique while singing a large cross section of choral litertaure from all eras. Most recently this group has been the featured choir at the national convocation of the Lutheran Education Association and collaborated in a performance of Benjamin Brittens Noyes Fludde with members of the Ann Arbor Boy Choir and the Saginaw Bay Youth Orchestra in honor of the composers one-hundredth birthday.
The repertoire of Aboa Gospel Choir of St Michael´s church in Turku, Finland features both classical music and modern African-American gospel music. The choir indulges in a wide variety of projects with different musical styles and powerful themes such as the masterpieces of Sir Karl Jenkins. The choir was established and is directed by Silvia Koski. The choir has 60 members who perform and present concerts throughout the year such as the charity concerts for the Children´s Clinic of the local University Hospital. The choir has spread God´s praises and sung with several renowned artists and performed on national television in programmes such as Voice of Finland.
He received numerous composition awards and assignments. Carlos has directed the Youth Orchestra Pablo Sarasate, Coral Tubala-Uxoa and Coro Lirico of Navarra of which he is the founder, the "Amalur Chamber Orchestra". Since 2001 he has been the Director of Choir In Tempore Abesbatza (Coral San José Abesbatza).He is also current Director of the Conservatory "Pablo Sarasate" in Pamplona.
Coral San José Abesbatza was founded in 1955 and directed since 2001 by Carlos Etxeberria who has incorporated into their repertoire contemporary composers like R. Halfter, Morten Lauridsen, J. Busto, Aita Donosti, F. Mompou, G. Fauré, Ola Gjeilo, Bob Chilcott, and Karl Jenkins, among others, thus developing their new label, "Coro In Tempore Abesbatza".They have performed hundreds of concerts in Pamplona and Navarre and participated in musical weeks held throughout Spain and southern France. They have participated in 20 editions of the "International Choir Music Day" held in Barcelona and have recorded numerous pieces.
The church choir of the Protestant Thomaskirche in Düsseldorf, Germany, is a cooperation of different parish based choirs. It dates back to the 60s of the last century. The aim of the choir is to provide high quality performances of modern classical and old church music as well as the joy of singing and performing amongst different generations. Our recent performances include the Christmas Oratorio by J.Gebel and A Little Jazz Mass by Bob Chilcott.
has been conducting the choir at the KRS since 2010, where he staged the musical plays “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Oliver” as well as the comic
opera “La belle Hélène” by Jacques Offenbach. He also sings tenor solo passages in oratories and interpreted song cycles such as Schubert’s “Winterreise”.
KRS is an academic high school. Emphasizing on musical education, there are some excellent instrumental ensembles – symphonic orchestra, brass orchestra and big band – as well as a choir. The choir consists of pupils, teachers, parents and alumni. Beside Karl Jenkin’s “Requiem”, the choir also performed pieces such as Henry Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas”, Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s “Jesus Christ Superstar”, cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach and Igor Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms”.
Celebrating its 125 Year Anniversary this year, the Kirchenchor Walchwil belongs to one of the best of its kind in the Canton of Zug in Switzerland. This Choir was featured in Swiss mass media and national T.V. Channel SRF 1– dubbed United Nations of Walchwil, thanks to the fact that next to the Swiss natives there are singers from 14 nations well integrated in Swiss society and culture in the choir. Our choir actively takes part in the community life, being an annual highlight of Easter and Christmas celebrations.
The 100 member SABT Mornington Peninsula Chorale perform three major works each yea; an Oratorio accompanied by well-known Australian soloists and a full orchestra, an Afternoon at the Proms and a Christmas concert accompanied by piano and strings. The aim of the musicians is to always pursue choral excellence through continuous development and improvement of their musical and vocal skills and to broaden public interest and appreciation of traditional and contemporary choral music. Recent performances include Mozart’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Karl Jenkin’s Stabat Mater and The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace.
The Newark Boys Chorus School was established to create an integrated academic and music program unique to the city of Newark, New Jersey. The school’s mission is to inspire in the students a love for learning, a quest for excellence, and a compassion for humanity. Known as Newark’s “Musical Ambassadors,” the Newark Boys Chorus has been heard throughout the world with a diversified repertoire, -traditional classical music through jazz. Few Chorus School graduates become professional musicians, but the training and experience they receive demand discipline and poise while providing the self-esteem that these young men carry with them through life.
Founded in the fall of 1990, the Children's Chorus of Sussex County has provided an opportunity for children who reside in northwest New Jersey and Pennsylvania to join together in the choral art. Known for their dedication, teamwork, and artistic excellence, the children pursue an ambitious schedule. The choir has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall, The White House, Prague's Smetana Hall, the Candelaria Church, Rio de Janeiro, and the Vatican. On tour in The Netherlands, Belgium and France, CCSC was invited by the American Ambassador to Belgium to perform for the July 4th Celebration at the American Embassy in Brussels.
